If this post needs to be somewhere else, I apologize ...

In my neck of the woods, we have a franchise outlet called BIG LOTS ... not sure if it is present in the NE. In the past two weeks or so, they have stocked DVDs at ridiculous prices (to name a few, that I picked-up):

Smallville - Season 7 BLU-RAY --- $6
Smallville - randon seasons --- $6
Lois Clark - Seasons 1-4 --- $3 each
The Adventures of Superman - Seasons 1-6 --- $3 each

Blade: The Complete Series --- $6
Nightmares & Dreamscapes ---$6
Darkman --- $3
Brainstorm --- $3
The Killer Shrews / The Giant Gila Monster - RESTORED & COLOR --- $3 (includes B&W versions!)

Lots and LOTS of animated series ...
Popeye - Volume 1 --- $3
Animaniacs V1-2, Pinky and the Brain V1-2 --- $6 each
The Flintstones - Seasons 1-6 --- $3 each
... plus Wacky Races, Top Cat, Josie and the Pussycats, Huckleberry Hound, etc --- $3 each

It's crazy ... not a Big Lots rep, just a Seeker of Awesome Deals.

Wow, those ARE some crazy prices! Thanks Uncle POE. I think there are some Big Lots in New England, but I don't know were the closest one to me is.

On a related note (and also related to your wondering just where this post should be) I was thinking of starting a thread about sales information that people want to share. Someone will occassionally post that their favorite store of website is having a sale, or has an unbelievable price for an item that CDFers might be interested in--but there's no place specifically set up for this kind of information, so it can end up in pretty much any forum ("Welcome to the CDF Message Board", "Which films do you remember and now have on DVD", "Miscellaneous"...). Obviously most of these sales and events are time sensitive and would only be good for so long. Random threads all over the board with old sale information would become, in essence, dead links. As a new thread would pop up to the top of a forum every time someone posts something new, it should be easy to find if it's in one place. Just a thought.

Thanks. It's up in the "Welcome To The Creature Double Feature Board" forum as we speak (write).

Wow! Flintstones seasons/Hanna Barbera at 3 bucks, that's beyond awesome uncle Poe, thanks for the tip! I love the Flintstones and was tempted to pick up some seasons used at 10 bucks a pop at the local Newbury Comics store but now I'll check the local Big Lots. They usually only have those cheapo public domain DVDs.

That aside, I wish I had a Big Lots closer to me....

:o YIKES! :o

Strange to think that so many DVDs are simply destroyed. I can understand the defective ones, but...

Yeah, that really annoyed me when I realized that the studios routinely destroy tons of unsold discs rather than, uh, LOWERING THE PRICES. Look at how much excitement these low-low Big Lots prices has generated online (and how quickly the discs fly out of the stores). Were the studios to slash prices themselves on these things, they would be making money on something they'd otherwise be paying people to dispose of.

Lame.

Aww man, I was planning to hit the local Big Lots tomorrow but it sounds like they were yanked from the shelves then?

I think the discs are still on shelves. A pal o' mine just hit a Big Lots over the weekend and grabbed a few titles. I'm heading to my old home town this Sunday and will see if that same store has any ill-gotten treasures left.

this happens a lot. i used to work at lechmere and every couple of months they would make us destroy cds and records and videos. it was such a waste but companies would spot check us to see that we did it so we had no choice.

what a waste.
