Hi All,
I was posting my movie list in another section of the Forum and i mentioned a site that i was able to buy high quality copies of every season, every episode for $250. i figured, seeing that this is the MST3K section of the site, i'd post it here too. i was very pleased with this purchase. The cool thing is that you can buy everything, a season, or individual episodes. either way, my Turkey Day, VHS tapes were starting to show their age and i just didint have the time to transfer everything i had to DVD. Again, i was very pleased with this guy's merchandise.
They can be found here:

I don't know if it's because THanksgiving's coming up (and I'm remembering the Turkey Day marathons), or if it's just because I heard that Cinematic Titanic has just released "Santa Claus Conquers the MArtians", but I'm suddenly in the mood to watch some MST3K. There's still tons of episodes I've never seen, and it might be time to pick some up. Looks like spooky electric's site is no longer up (unfortunate, but not surprising). But Daimajinbob's MST3K.org is still there. Daimajinbob, how has the quality of these discs been for you?

Man, I wish I could find some of the "Turkey Day" Episodes with the Turkey Day segments and bumpers in with the episode... But I guess I would have to put something like that together myself... Dr. Who

I suppose that, unlike when CDF was on the air, pretty much everyone had VCRs when the Turkey Day MST3K marathons were aired. I would imagine that many fans taped those marathons, so it's probably not that rare to find those promos/bumpers/etc. if you know where to look. At least it certainly shouldn't be nearly as difficult as finding a tape of an original 1970s airing of CDF!

a lot of these fan copies have the bumpers for turkey day. i have a couple of fan copies. good stuff. most fans only sell the episodes that aren't out legally. i have a bunch on vhs still. they are wearing out. i should copy them. i hope to watch an episode today. turkey day will never die!

Well I finally did it. After all this time I finally ordered some MST3K episodes from CheesyFlix! After Beastball solved a decades old mystery for me at teh Movie Help forum I just had to order the MST treatment of "Stranded in Space". While at it I also got six other episodes. Can't wait to relive some rare MST moments!
Here's what I ordered:
(0305) "Stranded in Space" (0308) "Gamera vs. Gaos" (0311) "It Conquered The World" (0312) "Gamera vs. Guiron" (0316) "Gamera vs. Zigra" (0319) "War of the Colossal Beast" (0420) "The Human Duplicators"
While "Stranded in Space" was a must because I want to see it after wondering what it was for twenty or so years, I also went pretty heavy on the CDF favorites (naturally). Have never seen "The Human Duplicators", but it's got Richard Kiel and I've been wanting to see it for a while--why not do it MST3K style? And I've got the MST3k "The Amazing Colossal Man" on VHS so I figured I might as well get "Colossal Beast" to round out a MST-ified version of the classic CDF double feature!

The DVDs arrived yesterday, exactly one week after I placed the order. I can't wait to indulge in some rare MST3k viewing!!! I watched the opening sequences of the "Stranded in Space" episode to make sure the DVDs played in my player--no problems!

From what I've seen so far the quality's great! Obviously I realize that the source material for most of these DVDs is old VHS tapes from when the show was on the air. Considering that, they did an excellent job of putting them on DVDs. There's no "chapter select" screen, but there ARE chapters which help you navigate through the show (if you want to watch host segments or skip to a later part of a movie for example). Some even have some little extras (like original bumpers and promos for the show). It's possible that some of the shows they offer that were originally on official videotapes (and even DVD) which have gone out-of-print (best example is probably "Godzilla vs. Megalon") may use those out-of-print copies as source materials--in which case they'd probably be the highest quality ones of the bunch. I don't know this for sure, just guessing and taking into account some comments made in the reviews...
I watched "War of the Colossal Beast" and "Stranded in Space" over the weekend and checked all the others to make sure they worked and looked okay--no problems at all. It's funny to occassionally see a little VCR element, like a line that suddenly runs down the screen or something like that. Not sure if something like that could be cleaned up by using some kind of computer sofrware, but it really doesn't take away from the experience. As long as you're not expecting a picture/sound experience that you'd get on an official remastered DVD you should be pretty happy with what you get. A great chance for true fans of the show to se stuff that would otherwise be hard to come by!
When you check out individual episodes on the site there are usually a few reviews from people who have bought them so you can see what others thought. This is probably the best thing to do before deciding whether to buy a specific episode--if you're looking for the ones with the best audio/visual quality. Apparently there is some variation from title to title.
Another great thing about these DVDs is that you don't feel like you're dealing with a shady organization and possibly doing something "wrong" by buying them. They only offer titles that are out-of-print, and are selling them as episodes of MST3K--as opposed to unauthorized DVDs of movies with questionable rights. Whenever a new official volume of movies is released on DVD they remove any of the titles they had been selling that are on that particular set.
Bottom line--a great (and relatively inexpensive) way to reconnect with an old show and see episodes not available on official DVD that you may have not seen in many years (if at all). I'd definitely recommend it to someone dying to see a particular episode that has never been released on DVD and which may have a hard time finding its way there because of legal reasons (like "I Was a teenage Werewolf" for example).

Wow, competition! Has anyone bought from this site? Same price, mostly same episodes available. Pretty impressive list of "extras"! And they even have some great non-MSTied movies too ("I Was a Teenage Werewolf", "Killdozer"--which I still have never seen).
Thanks astroal!

It's nice to know there's (at least) two reliable places to get these episodes (and other neat MST3K-related stuff) from! While videotapes are no longer the preferred means of distributing or watching stuff like MST3K, it's cool to think that people are still heeding the request to "Keep circulating the tapes", as the end credits of the show used to say. The technology has changed from VHS to DVD (though I'm sure 90% of the original source materials for these DVDs came from VHS tapes that people made of the show back in the day), and they are now being peddled online at websites rather than through the mail, but it's still more-or-less the same idea!
