 ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!!
I've had it with the snow.

The piles are so big there's no place to put any more! I'm sick of Winter
I'm sick of the cold
I'm sick of the ice
I'm sick of darkness at 4:30 pm
I'm sick of my car looking like a mess
I'm sick of wearing ten friggin layers of clothing
I'm sick of being cooped up inside

I'm just sick of it all.

Thanks, I needed to rant.

If it makes you feel any better, Houston is predicted to get about 4 inches Friday

 Re: ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!!
When I posted my rant, I had just finished removing 4 inches of snow from the storm today. We're getting another storm tomorrow that's going to be a real messy mixture of snow, sleet and rain--to make it nice and heavy. So, I'll have to do it all over again.
I am so ready for baseball.

 Re: ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!!
It's a good rant. I am sick of it too. To be honest, I don't really like winter in general. I don't ski and I hate driving in snow and having to remove it. Obviously this year has been particularly bad. I was born and raised in New England, so I'm plenty used to the white stuff--but that doesn't mean I have to like it. In addition to shoveling TWICE today (with more to come tomorrow) I also found myself doing something I've never had to do before. Like you said, there's no place to put any more snow, so I had to climb ONTO my snowbanks (which are taller than me) and spent about an hour stomping on them and shoveling the snow and ice off the tops to try to make more room and to improve the visibility to the road. I'm SO ready for spring.

 Re: ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!!
I started hating Winter probably ever since I started driving and working. Before that of course, snow was a welcome sight and I used to love sitting by the radio listening to all the school cancellations, hoping to hear "no school Lincoln". After those wonderful words were said, it was off for a day of sledding, building snowmen, snow forts, snowball fights, and we'd stay out for the whole day having fun.
It's amazing how much my view of snow has changed since childhood.
I just finished an exhausting 2 1/2 hours of removing slush and standing water from my driveway, but there's no place for the water to go. All the drains and gutters are clogged and now with the temperature dropping, I'm going to have a skating rink for a driveway.

They are predicting snow tonight and tomorrow here in Houston. It sucks because I have job interview tomorrow.

This is pretty much exactly the same as my experience too. I LOVED snow days as a kid (who didn't?). It was the best when they'd announce it the night before and I could stay up late (and NOT do my homework--or at least have a good excuse for not doing it!). I've worked at quite a few places that would always stay open in bad weather, so I really learned to hate driving in the stuff. One job actually included snow removal at a condo complex--which meant I not only HAD to go it, but I had to go in at the height of the storm before any clean-up had been done. I don't know how my little Chevy Nova made it through all those storms.

 Re: ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!!
I only had a small amount of rock salt left, so I went to Benny's yesterday to get some more. Sold out.
Today, I went to about a half a dozen stores looking for the GD stuff. No luck:
Wal-Mart
then
Home Depot
then
Stop & Shop
then back to Benny's for another try
then
my last try was at Ocean State Job Lot. They chuckled at my inquiery if they had any. Long sold out. It wasn't a total waste, though, I picked up a couple more pairs of woolen socks for a great price.

I chopped away as much of the ice from my driveway as I could, but tomorrow, we're supposed to get more snow/rain/snow again. Then more next week. I'm ready to give up.

i hear you guys. this sucks. no other way to put it. the pile in front of the house we live in is almost up to the second floor. not kidding at all.

i have to creep out of my driveway to see anything.

more tonight. yay.

i am ready to move to aruba.

i think someone scraped the front of my car during all this mess. there's some fresh scratches on my front fender. sigh.

we've certainly had hard winters before but for some reason this one is the most depressing in my memory.

July.

Actually, I do recall snow lasting until early June once and that was after the Blizzard of '78. There were literally mountains of snow piles at the Lincoln Mall and I distinctly remember there still being some left going into June.

 Re: ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!!
Yup, I think some of these piles are going to linger for a while this year.

And, wouldn't you know it? We finally get some warmer weather, and the problems continue. THanks to the 60 degree weather today we got thunderstorms tonight. The wind from the storm caused a couple pieces of our siding up near the roof to come loose and bang against the house. I found myself up on a ladder at 9:30 nailing them (sort-of) back in place. I can't wait to see how much the siding people are going to charge to fix it all up. And, just to make sure we don't forget about the cold stuff, we also just happened to get a $700.00 oil delivery today. Joy!

Yeah, that thunderstorm passed by down here too...caught me by surprise. Guess I should've payed closer attention to the weather report.
I saw a flash of light in the corner of my eye as I was watching TV. I thought maybe it was someone's headlight or a police car or something, until I heard the thunder.

Ever think about getting a wood pellet stove? My friend Steve got one two years ago and he only turned on the oil heat once this Winter. He buys 4 or 5 pallets of the pellets ( :-)) when they go on sale and stores them in his basement.
