 Gene Gene the Dancing Machine
If you were a kid in the 70's like me, you probably watched the Gong Show. It was very popular and originally ran from 1976 through 1980. What became one of the most fun segments of the show, was the recurring appearance of Gene Gene, the Dancing Machine:

Hope this dredged up some pleasant memories of the awesome 70's for you!
:D :D :D

Oh yeah! I definitely remember Gene Gene the Dancing Machine! Always a welcome site on the Gong Show! Thanks for that little blast from the past Beastball.

There was dive bar in Boston called Father's Too and the bouncer there looked just like Gene. In fact everytime someone played Young MC's Bust A Move he would break out in a similar dance. It didn't matter how many times that song got played either.

A big thrill for me was meeting Chuck Barris in 1978 when he was in Boston. A friend's dad somehow knew him and took four of us to see him.

Kind of unsettling to think that both Barris and Jaye P. Morgan are now in their 80's!!

80's?!? That IS unsettling indeed! That's very cool that you got to meet Barris back then!

I bet that would have been fun since expectations would have been low!! The last time I was in Vegas I saw Don Rickles at the old Stardust Casino Ballroom. The show was dated and you had to be a certain age to laugh but I totally enjoyed it and was glad I went.

I saw Rickles at Foxwoods in CT a few years ago and was often doubled over with laughter. Man, my face hurt from laughing so much by the time the show was over.

The Gong Show! That was a wild and crazy show. Chuck Barris, Gene Gene the Dancing Machine, and the Unknown Comic! Doesn't seem possible that a show like that could EVER air nowadays on a major network. Just a lot of silly nonsense fun! Miss it!

Two other great, funny shows, were Match Game and Hollywood Squares. Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Riley always made you laugh.

Also, anyone remember the original version of Wheel of Fortune, with Chuck Woolery? You had to shop various displays with the money you won, and the remainder was 'on account or gift certificate'. That show wasn't funny, just an observation of how that show has evolved.

I remember on the old WOF that the a lamp cost $600. I never understood those prices.

It is too bad daytime tv is dominated by useless talk shows and never ending news cycles.

I used to watch WOF when Chuck hosted and I remember whenever someone was given the choice of "on account or gift certificate", no one ever chose account-- it was always gift certificate. I guess no one wanted to save their winnings.

I loooooove THE MATCH GAME. Used to watch it on WBZ after school at my grandparents' house, and picked up the DVD set a few years ago. Before that, I picked up some 6-hour tapes recorded off the Game Show Network before our cable company carried it...60 HOURS of MATCH GAME goodness!

Recently a pal of mine gave me a MATCH GAME DVD game, which allows you and your friends to try your chance at matching the stars. Lots of fun, though for some reason they only have footage of Gene Rayburn from the old shows, while the stars are shown via stills and the original audio. Not sure if it was a licensing thing or done to conserve space on the game DVD. That aside, it's a blast.
