Cool. When I saw them in Boston a year or two ago they did DYNAMITE BROTHERS, which was a hoot.

According to the FAQ on the CT site, it'll be THE ALIEN FACTOR and WAR OF THE INSECTS, two films that I've never seen, riffed or unriffed. Unless WAR OF THE INSECTS is a re-titling, as was EAST MEETS WATTS and THE OOZING SKULL.

Can't wait!

(But will, because, you know, it's a few weeks away.)

Cool!

I'm pretty sure I picked up "Alien Factor" a few years back at a dollar store. Wonder whether it would be a good idea to watch it before going to the show, or if it would be better to go into it as a totally new experience. Hmmm...

Never heard of "War of the Insects", but it looks like it's a Japanese movie from 1968 called "Genocide" (which I also never heard of). Sounds interesting (though descriptions of crappy movies are usually pretty misleading).

Hope you guys have fun! ...And report back in with us later, of course!

Re: live show in concord nh
so who went?

we went to the first show. they riffed the alien factor. what a splendid piece of tripe that film was.... man they spent most of the movie walking through the woods while someone tuned their keyboard. it was pretty bad.

they had some great lines during the movie and the pre-show was fun.

after the first show they signed autographs. i got them all to sign my mst3k book and a copy of east meets watts. they were all really nice. mary jo was particularly chirpy. i talked to joel really quick (the line was huge and i didn't want to keep people waiting, actually i think the whole crowd was good about that) about how much walking there was in the movie and he said, yeah it was as if they had a 30 minute movie then decided to walk for the rest of it.

before the show we had dinner at an indian restourant and saw frank walk by the window. i guess he just wondered around the downtown on foot to check it out before the show.

there was a guy in the lobby who had a remote controll tom servo and was having it move around the room.

it was a great night. i was tempted to stay for the second show...

My wife and I were there for both shows and had a blast (though she ran out of steam and konked out about 10 minutes from the end of the second film).

The pre-film show was different for each performance, which was nice. The second show wasn't quite as packed as the first; the CT crew asked how many of us at the second show had been to the earlier performance, and once it was clear that most of us were hold-overs, they made sure to do different material than they had previously , which I thought was a very considerate touch. Before each film Josh came out to do a little stand-up and introduce Frank, who did some material and introduced Trace, who introduced Mary Jo doing a reading of a few poems from Trace's book of children's rhymes, accompanied by illustrations from the book projected behind her. Then Josh came back out and did an Elvis Costello song (different song at each show), and introduced Joel, and they did the MST theme together. Then a little banter and into the film.

First up was THE ALIEN FACTOR, which as Astroal said, was entertainingly stinky, and so goofy that it occasionally got roars of laughter without the CT crew having to say anything.

The second show, billed as WAR OF THE INSECTS, was a 1968 Japanese film called GENOCIDE, about killer swarms of insects. I was surprised I'd never heard of this one before, as it's right up our alley here in CDF Land. It was pretty nutty, and leant itself nicely to the riffing.

We noticed that, unlike the last time we saw them two or so years ago, the cast now no longer carries out heavy binders with their scripts for the show, but zips along technological-like with i-Pads, which was nifty.

As Astroal said, there were a ton of people there (at the first show at least), and the lobby was swarming with fans who were pretty excited to see that motorized Tom Servo. I spied some cool t-shirts in the lobby, including a Godzilla and a MANOS tee!

I'm hoping CINEMATIC TITANIC makes a return trip to Concord in the future, or better yet, a maiden voyage at the Colonial in Keene.

i'm hoping they come to the somerville theater again. that is one of my favorite places to see a show.

glad the second show was fun.

it was a hoot hearing them play the theme song!

A pal of mine manages the Somerville, and I have to agree that it's a beauty.

They're running some fun screenings of older flick on the big screen soon that are mighty tempting, as well as the Boston SF Film Fest this coming month.

Thank you very much for the recaps/reviews guys! Wish I could have gone, but glad that the CDF board was represented and that you are willing to share the experience with us. Sounds like a fun night was had by all. That remote control Tom Servo sounds cool! Interesting that the CTers have advanced from paper scripts to iPads. Time marches on I suppose... I hope they release "War of the Insects" ("Genocide") on DVD. I've never heard of it before this either and am interested in seeing it (especially with riffing).

Re: live show in concord nh
i had read in an interview with joel that they were using ipads now. makes sense they can move through the script easier

at the pre-show it was funny to see them have some tech glitches. they were suppossed to have slides accompany mary jo reading from traces book and they were out of synch or for the wrong poem. it added to the wonderful night of cheese.

the capitol center is a good place to see a show. not a bad seat in the place from what i could tell. the egyptian art deco design is a hoot.
