Official Main Trailer

Here's something interesting...There's an Atlantic Rim movie trailer out. How can this blatant ripoff not infringe some sort of copyright law?

Atlantic Rim is produced by The Asylum, a studio famous for 'mockbusters'

I've gotta say, that Asylum company must really be living on the edge. It would seem like they're constantly in danger of being shut down by any number of lawsuits. Have they figured out some sort of loophole that allows them to make all the blatant rip-offs that they make. I also find it VERY impressive how quickly they churn out these rip-offs to cash in on the newness of the movies they're cashing in on.

i bet they'll be fine.
if you think about it this isn't too unlike what companies like AIP did in the drive in days.

hollywood seems to be built on the concept of ripping itself off.

I'll hopefully be going to the drive-in Thursday night for Monsters U/The Lone Ranger but if it rains I may see the premiere or Pacific Rim instead.

This has been a very odd year for me so far--movie-wise. I have not gone to see ANY movie at all. Movies I would normally be so excited to see, have me totally underwhelmed.

Star Trek into Darkness
Iron-Man 3
World War Z
Man of Steel

Wolverine is also opening this month and I'm no more enthused for that movie than any of these other movies. I don't know why I feel this way--I may be burnt out on the big Summer action flicks since they all seem to blur together for me now.

saw pacific rim last night.

went friday night but the imax was sold out!

got tix for saturday night well in advance and glad i did as that sold out too.

the movie was a hoot!

had a great time. perfect. they didn't make it too long and didn't bog it down with a lot of unneeded sub plots.

it was fun. i will try and see it again. lots of robot vs monster action! this movie was made for cdf fans!

 Re: Pacific Rim (2013)
Saw this opening weekend and didn't like it. And you know, being a fan of this board and CDF and all, that the notion of Giant Monsters vs Giant Robots is right up my alley.

I think for me the main issue was the lack of being able to see what was going on during so many of the fights. Giant robots with a million moving parts vs giant monsters who were designed in such a way that I was never sure what was the head/tail/fin/arm, fighting in the dark underwater. I got the idea of what was going on, but couldn't savor the flavor like we did in the old Toho flicks. Being more or less bored with the action, all I was left with was the connective tissue of the human story, usually the weakest link in a Godzilla film. Here we get some tension between two interchangeable robot pilots in a hero/villain scenario, a lot of militaristic hoo-ha from various members of this film's equivalent to the G-Force of the later-day Godzilla films, and some annoying (to me, at least) comic relief from two scientists trying to figure out how get inside the brains of the monsters and find out their weakness.

For me, this felt like a sequel to the US GODZILLA, and a lot like the late-80s/90s Toho Godzilla films, neither of which is a good thing.

But that's just me...

Totally agree with your review Mark.

I saw it opening night in IMAX 3D but never got around to posting a review here. The only positive aspects for me were the IMAX 3D effects along with the immersive sound effects.
Although the concept was very cool the story didn't grab me, characters were either abrasive or boring (Ron Perlman was just ok) and action scenes were too hard to make out what was going on.

 Re: Pacific Rim (2013)
I finally got a chance to watch the movie on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately I fell asleep about 1/3 the way in and had to finish it the next day. Overall I enjoyed it and if I was 12 again I might have really enjoyed it. Yes, the storyline and characters had flaws, but at least these kinds of movies are making a comeback. I do wish I took the time to see it in a theater.

Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Memoirs of a Geisha) will be playing Dr. Daisuke Serizawa
