True, I hadn't thought of that. I guess since I saw the movie as a kid I guess you could sort of say I was kind of brought up with the idea of nazi-zombies as a "reality" .

Yeah astroal, I'm sure that part of the reason for this little genre existing (beyond the popularity of zombie movies in the mid- to late-70s) has a lot to do with the belief that the nazis were heavily into medical experimentation, strange science programs and even the paranormal (Heck the great "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is based on this notion). I've read that some people believe that the nazis even had a space program (probably based on the fact that they had early success with rockets with the V-1 and V-2), and either had or were planning on having a base on the moon! While all this sounds exremely far-fetched to say the least (and I don't want to sound like I'm one of the kooks subscribing to these ideas ), I do have to say that I wonder what the world would be like if the nazis had WON the war. After all, the space program really took off in the 50s and 60s--fueled by the cold war. If the nazis had won there wouldn't have been a cold war, but I'm sure that any ideas that Hitler and co. had would be financed to the max--in the effort to glamorize the Reich and all. If there WAS any thought to having a space program during the war I can only imagine that they would have followed through with it after their victory and we'd now have a swastika flying up on the moon rather than the good old Stars and Stripes. And with all the talk about creating supersoldiers and the perfect master race, how far-fetched is it to think that those experiments would have led to something resembling the zombies from these movies if they were continued after the war? That might not have been the desired result, but there probably would have been a ffew missteps during the process...

Geez, now the "Shock Waves" discussion has gotten me rambling on and on about alternate realities and such... There's just something about that movie.

Oh, and I didn't even mention that nazis and UFOs have been linked together too in some areas--yet another link between nazis and the paranormal world!

I LOVE discussing "what if?" WWII scenarios!

The truth of the matter is we were lucky it was Hitler who led Germany and not a sane person with the same agenda. The Whermacht were the best trained, best equipped, and best led army in the world. If Hitler had gone about it a little differently like instead of driving out the greatest Jewish minds in science (Einstein, Teller, Oppenheimer, etc.) the Germans would indeed have had Atomics. Aside from that, when the Germans invaded Russia, the peasants looked to them as liberators from Stalin. Had he used them in his fight against Russia, and listened to his generals and captured Moscow, the Soviets would have not stood a chance.

With the war in the East finished, the Germans wouldn't have had to split their forces on two fronts. There's no way we could have invaded Fortess Europe with that scenario.

I believe there are some books and possibly movies dealing with the "What if?" question about WWII, aren't there? I haven't read/seen any of them, but they could certainly be interesting. On a related note, a couple of months ago I rented "C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America" from Netflix. It's a "What if?" about how America might look if the south had won the Civil War, presented as a documentary. Not great, but interesting. I also have "The Death of a President" sitting in my queue. It's a "Documentary" about a fictional assination of President Bush. Not exactly a "What if?", but certainly along those lines.

I read this and really liked it in the early 90s. Later saw the made-for-cable film and didn't like it as much, but that may have been due to having read the book first.

i read a book called the man in the hightower where the US was divided between the germans and japanese. it wasn't a very good book despite the premise.

Back to the nazi-zombies. I don't really know much about today's video games, but appparently nazi-zombies can be found in at least one video game, in addition to the movies and book listed above. Call of Duty: World at War gives you the chance to shoot up nazi-zombies. Here's a clip at Youtube:
