This movie has been floating around in my head for the longest. I can't remember but a few pieces, but hopefully it will help.

A group of people ended up stranded on an island. As they're roaming around looking for help, they come across this abandoned....property (possibly small hotel) I remember one scene in the building, with a person standing with it's back to a nasty, grimy, indoor pool. Slowly immerging from the pool is a figure, in some type of "army fatigues" with green mask, with GOGGLES. Then up pops another army dude...then another. What stands out most in my "visions" of this movie are the GOGGLES. Throughout the movie the "dudes" appear out of nowhere and kill the people one by one. Can't remember how they (if any) survived and escaped the island.

I hope that's enough to help. THANKS FOR THIS CDF WEBSITE!

That would be SHOCK WAVES, with Peter Cushing. Blue Underground as a great DVD of this one out there for under $15, I believe.

I remember seeing this one several times on sunny Saturday afternoons on Channel 38.

Welcome to the board thecook! I hope you do indeed get a chance to watch "Shock Waves" again. It's one that scared the crap out of me as a kid watching it on TV.

"Shock Waves" (1977):
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076704/

I feel it's the best of the (admittedly limited) genre of Nazi-zombie movies. Though part of that opinion might have to do with the fact that it's the only one I saw as a kid. Others to look out for include:

"Oasis of the Zombies" (1981):
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0474531/

"Zombie Lake" (1981):
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081027/

"The Chilling" (aka "Night of the SS Zombies") (1981):
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082815/

Apparently 1981 was a very good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) year for Nazi-zombie movies. I haven't seen "The Chilling" (or "Night of the Zombies"/"Night of the SS Zombies"/"Night of the Wehrmacht Zombies"/"Battalion of the Living Dead" or whatever it's called), but the clips I've seen don't look very promising. While I admit to being a bit of a fan of "Shock Waves" because of having seen it as a kid, I have to say that the others were pretty bad. So bad they're good? I'll let others decide for themselves!

Here's a guy named DarkAngel182 reviewing his Nazi-zombie collection on YouTube (includes all of the above). Pretty inforative...and funny:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE2KZKjN69o

And it's also worth mentioning that (like the zombies themselves) the genre of Nazi-zombie movies isn't dead yet. In 2008 a movie about Nazi-zombies called "The Outpost" was released! A welcome addition to the canon.

"The Outpost" (2008):

Thanks for the Welcome! I'm still trying to navigate throughout the site. I need to figure out how to add one of those...anime thingys (LOL!)

Yeah Peter Cushing was pretty creepy (and Lon Chaney, B. Lugosi, etc.).
I guess all of those guys were creepy when you're 9 or 10 years old.

I've always loved scary movies, parasychology, BigFoot, Loch Ness, ghosts, etc. and still do. (husband hates them - LOL!) However, some
of the "scary" movies these days are a little too "gorey" for me. (ex. Descent, or blood gushing out stuff)

I'll try and get a copy of Shockwaves from my favorite Nostalgia Shop. It's located in Willingboro NJ. They have EVERYTHING. I bought a couple of Ultra Man videos from there. (Play with this Toys & Collectibles)
Store #220 www.thegrandmarketplace.com

I LOVED CDF and I'm really glad this site is here.
Gotta go now and find a recipe to cook!

Well, looks like you found the right place. While I'm sure there are all types here (including those that relish the graphic-gore horror movies), the thing we all share (for the most part) is that we grew up with Creature Double Feature and loved it. Makes us a nice little community with something in common. As you navigate around here you're bound to find more interesting stuff (including a rather extensive bigfoot thread!).

Your Nostalgia Shop sounds cool. But if you CAN'T find "Shock Waves" there, it is always available at eBay. If I could find an excessively cheap one I'd pck one up to replace my old VHS copy.

A couple more things to add to this discussion. First off, I decided to watch a little of "Shock Waves" after I found an old audio tape that I had recorded off an airing of the movie on channel 56 back in 1984 (possibly the first time I ever saw it). Unfortunately, the VHS tape of the movie, which I bought way back in 1990, seems to have self-destructed. My VCR ate it and I couldn't get it to play. That was bad news, but it DID get me to finally buy a copy of the movie on DVD. Just picked it up from DeepDiscount.com today. They had it for $13.47, and today was the last day of their big 25% off sale, so I got it for a grand total of $10.10 (and free shipping too)!

The other thing I wanted to mention (and didn't feel like starting up a whole Nazi-zombie thread) is that, in addition to the Nazi-zombie movies listed above, another source for Nazi-zombie entertainment is the book "The Night Boat" by Robert R. McCammon (Author of "SwanSong"). This came out in the late 80s and is apparently out-of-print now. I read this one while I was in the Army and hadn't thought about it for a while. The story is quite similar to that of "Shock Waves"--namely that a bunch of Nazi-zombies from a sunken U-Boat kill off a bunch of people on an island. The main difference (from what I remember) is that the zombies in "Shock Waves" were genetically altered superhuman killing machines created by the Nazis, while the zombies in "The Night Boat" were regular Nazis who had a curse of being undead placed on them by the people of the island. I remember the book being quite graphic in describing both the zombies and their attacks. The phrase that really stuck with me had something to do with a zombie ripping double handfuls of flesh from one of its victims (or something to that effect). If that didn't turn anyone off from this story, copies of "The Night Boat" can be found on eBay and at Amazon.com.

Here it is at Amazon:

Correction. After watching my brand new DVD of "Shock Waves" I should mention that the zombies in "Shock Waves" didn't come from a U-boat. Apparently they were engineered to fight in the navy (as U-boat crewmen), but they were being transported by ship at the time the ship was sunk off the island in the movie. Therefore, while they were MEANT to be in a U-Boat, they didn't actually COME from a sunken U-Boat like the ones from "Night Boat". Not a huge difference or anything, but I wouldn't want a big "Shock waves" fan to read what I had written and be "shocked" by my mistake!

I was thrilled to be able to see SHOCK WAVES on the big screen at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline a few years ago. While the crowd assembled didn't show the proper amount of respect that a 70's underwater Nazi zombie film requires, I was able to tune out the hyenas and commentators and revel in the joy that is SHOCK WAVES.

I've never seen any of these "Nazi-Zombie" movie before...the idea of combining Nazis and Zombies seems bizarre to me. But Peter Cushing is in Shockwaves, so maybe I'll check it out.

Beastball, I can certainly understand having concerns about the subject matter, but I have to say that I'd HIGHLY recommend watching this movie if you haven't seen it. Beyond the fact that the zombies were created by the nazis and the fact that Peter Cushing plays their former commander there's really nothing "nazi-ish" about the movie. And for a horror movie about zombies, it's pretty tame. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if hardcore horror fans found it not to their liking. Like I said, it WAS aired on channel 56 as an 8:00 movie (and an afternoon weekend movie too I believe). There's not a ton of voilence and no real gore to speak of. Still, it's entertaining and fun to watch. In addition to Peter Cushing hamming it up a year or so before appearing in "Star Wars", it also features John Carridine as the captain of the boat that ends up getting stranded near the island. The two don't appear together, and according to the entertaining commentary track, they were both only available for a couple of days. Considering this limitation I think the makers of the movie did an excellent job of making their respective performances feel like more than glorified cameos.

It feels strange to be raving about and recommending a movie like "Shock Waves", but I really feel it's worth watching for anyone who grew up with CDF who hasn't seen it yet. Not only do I consider it to be the best of the (admittedly limited) nazi-zombie genre, I also wouldn't actually recommend any of the other ones that I've seen to this point. I mean I saw them more or less because I felt like I had to after enjoying "Shock Waves" so much, but to be honest, there's really not much to recommend about them. Sorry to go on and on like this...

Not at all, Col Manning. I really do appreciate you explaining this sub-genre to me. I have no objection to them having Nazis in the movie or if there is anything pertaining to national socialism. Indeed, I am an avid WWII buff (will definately go see Valkyrie!) The truth of the matter is, combing Nazis with zombies just seems odd. The two seem to have nothing in common ...unless it's them both being pure evil. Perhaps if I look at it from that standpoint and not a WWII standpoint, it makes more sense.
