Absolutely hilarious! What a great way to tap into the memory banks of CDF-era people to mine some great (and rather dark) humor! And it's true--most of the McDonaldland characters were happy, cuddly friendly people (or creatures). I guess that, in a way, you could say that the Hamburgler represented the dark side of humanity. Little did I realize just how true to life those commercials were!

Yeah, what the hell WAS Grimace...and what kind of a name is Grimace anyway? Doesn't sound like a name that you'd want to associate with McDonald's food! A shake is the only thing on the McDonald's menu that I could fathom him being--if he's even supposed to be a food item like Mayor McCheese, the Fry Guys... Otherwise, I'd have to guess that he's a "monster", like the many monsters seen on Sesame Street. Somebody was definitely on something when they came up with these characters (besides being influenced by--or ripping off--H.R. Pufnstuf).

A quick look at Wikipedia shows Grimace really wasn't a milkshake per se, but only stole them. It apparently lost a pair of arms along the way too...didn't know that.

Quote:
Grimace. Grimace is an anthropomorphic purple being. Originally, Grimace was the "Evil Grimace", with two pairs of arms with which to steal milkshakes. After that first campaign, the character was revised to be one of the "good guys", and his number of arms was reduced by two. Commercials and merchandise generally portrayed him as a well-meaning simpleton, whose clumsy antics provided a comic foil to Ronald McDonald. The character was retained after the streamlining of the characters in the '80s. He was voiced by Frank Welker.

Grimace reminds me of Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants. Image

patrick is fun. i used to like spongebob a lot. the show went down hill though around the time the movie came out. the movie itself was bland.
