I know and could swear that I read somewhere that they are supposed to be making a remake of Daimajin directed by Takashi Miike. Has anyone heard anything or read anything? If so, please post a like if there is one.
~Thank you.

A Daimajin remake would be of real interest to me, having enjoyed the oringinals since first seeing them on CDF. One thing I've noticed now is that I can appreciate the "human" story more than when I was a kid. Back then, all I wanted to see was Majin and hated that he would only appear in the final 20 minutes of the movies.

i read on some website that it got canned when the new gamera flick little braves didn't do well.
i can see why that flick didn't do well from the previews. looked really dumb. not fun. just dumbed down for kids.
i had read somewhere once that kevin costner wanted to remake the majin movies. ick.

This would strike me the same way as if someone said there was a remake of the original Star Wars in the works.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Yeah, but aren't you interested in seeing what they can do with all this wonderful modern CGI effects? After all, we'll still have the originals to enjoy. No one would take those away, right?

I wouldn't mind a part 4.
It wouldn't need to be CGI even, I like that the more modern kaiju movies stick to rubber suits.
I'm not totally against CGI but I do like to see fx in a movie and know what I'm seeing actually exists in physical form.

If they were to do a remake of the trilogy, I think it should be broken down in to different time periods
Part One: Takes place in feudal Japan Part Two: Takes place during World War II Part Three: Present time.
When you watch them they all have the same plot. Feudal Lord enslaves people Daimajin saves them.

I'm getting to the point where I welcome remakes of films I like, because if nothing else it means that a really sweet new DVD of the original will get released.
As for Daimajin, perhaps this new film will launch a new series that will give us big D's continuing adventures, a-la Godzilla or Gamera or MVP, the extreme sports chimp.
I like Daimajinbob's idea though. It would be neat to see the character do its thing in different periods in history.

Having a Daimajin movie set during WWII would present an interesting problem for Japanese filmakers. Would they be brave enough to make a movie where the stone god punishes the brutal Japanese forces subjugating the Chinese populace, or take the easy way out and have Daimajin help Japan in repelling the invading hordes of Americans?

Either that or it will be an evil Japanese Colonel or something that essentially treats his men like slaves or something around those lines.
