Download Youtube videos free

Ever wanted to download a cool video off of Youtube?
I recommend using Mpeg Streamclip by Square 5 (it's freeware) for Mac or Windows
Just down load and install, then click 'File' then 'Open URL' then paste the link and click download.
I just tried a few of the HD videos in my favorites. Works like a dream.

Great! Thanks for the information Daimajinbob. I've often seen videos that I liked and wished there was an easy way to download them. My computer literacy is somewhat limited :roll:

I'll try it...it sounds alot easier than what I used to do.

First I had to view the clip, then I had to go into my Temporary Internet Files folder to grab the just-viewed file. Then I had to convert it to a viewable format using a converter program.

Mpeg Streamclip is very easy to use.After you copy and paste the URL, just click 'download' and it will save the video in MP4 format.
Mpeg Streamclip also allows you to convert video files in to different formats.

If you import video from a video camera you can convert it to DV format for easy editing. It is a great program. I highly recommend it.

Can't get it to properly work on Windows. Batch file errors even on my own youtube uploads. I viewed the tutorials but it seems they are all geared to MAC.

I like VLC but I'll try this app again later.

Ok just in case here is step by step.
1) Open Mpegstreamclip
2} Click File>>Open URL
3)Paste YouTube URL
4) Make sure 'Download' is selected
5) I generally selected the HD option by try MP4 just in case

Tried that and other settings as well as turning off my AV and FW apps but still no luck.

I attempted to grab the Gargoyle movie from youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPy34DUom_c but the app did alert me that there may be problems successfully downloading it.

I shall keep on trying!

That's pretty strange. I don't have any problems. Can't see why there is a problem with the Windows version when it is programed to do the same thing. Try to defrag your Hard Drive. Then give it another shot

If you browse the web with Firefox, I would recommend a little add-on for it named Downloadhelper:
http://www.downloadhelper.net/

Extremely easy to use, just click on the icon in Firefox, select the video and download.
Downloadhelper can convert videos too.

Thanks for the advice and programs. It turns out it was my firewall preventing the programs from running properly. I had switched from Trend Micro to Sonic and it required a few adjustments.
