 Some type of "Frankenstein" movie?
I have a vague recollection of a very odd "Frankenstein" movie where the monster is quite a bit larger than human size, and fights a dinosaur-type beastie. Which movie is that?

A CDF classic! And, don't forget about its "sequel" of sorts: "War of the Gargantuas"!

Here's the TV Guide ad for the November 8, 1975 Creature Double Feature that had "Frankenstein Conquered the World" as the second movie.

I used to collect those ads and any other neat picture in TV Guide I'd cut out and save. Pictures of those great monsters like Godzilla were so rare back then (for me at least). The only picture of the Gargantuas I had was from those CDF ads.

Yeah, we live in a great time where so much information is available at our fingertips, but in a way it kind of makes all the stuff you can find a little less special--because it's generally so easy to find. To have a CDF ad with a photo of the Gargantuas (for instance) in a time when finding something like that was extremely hard for a kid to do makes it such a precious and special thing! I suppose it's exactly the same as how special a show like CDF was (not to mention the annual airings of "The Wizard of Oz" and all the holiday specials) in a time when it was the only way to see those kinds of movies. You either had to be there at the right time or you'd miss it and not have another chance to see it until who knew when!

If you watch the original release of WOTG (Japanese-English subs) it is clearly explained that the Gargantuas are direct spawn of the Frankenstein monster. The original ending had the Frankenstein monster fight a giant octopus which resulted in his death. Some of his genetic material made it to the sea (which became Green Gargantua and some made up in to the mountain streams resulting in Brown Gargantua. They also refer to the Gargantuas directly as Frankenstein.

It was kind of like Superman Returns where they kept making references to the original film to try to make you believe it was a continuation

I hope everyone can stand a little more "Frankenstein Conquers the World" fun. Not only was the copy in the ads Great, the descriptions of many of the movies in the listings themselves were pretty entertaining too! I've wondered if TV Guide had standard copy for the movies (or writers that worked for them), or if the channels themselves provided copy for the movies they'd be airing for their edition of the magazine. I've seen quite a few "interesting" ones for CDF movies that tend to have a similar style to each other. Check out the description of "Frankenstein Conquers the World" from the March 21, 1981 1:00 airing on CDF (followed by "Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster" at 2:30):

56 MOVIE--Thriller
"Frankenstein Conquers the World"
(Japanese; 1965) Preposterous but
entertaining hokum mixing East-
West horror lore in a fine display
of special effects. Nick Adams,
Kumi Mizuno. (90 min.)
