 Spook-Er-Roo Spectacular - Pike Drive-In (PA) - Sept 19-20
Here's another cool retro-35mm Drive-In horror show coming up next weekend at the Pike Drive-In in Montgomery, PA:

https://www.facebook.com/13450412323136 ... =1&theater

http://www.pikedi.com/index.html

The line-up is:

HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS
THE HOUSE BY THE LAKE
THE WAR BETWEEN THE PLANETS
DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT

For those in the New England area, traveling to this show shaves about 3-4 hours off what you'd do to get to Monster-rama at the Riverside Drive-In.
The same program plays on both Friday and Saturday (Sept 19-20) nights.

I was in Pittsburgh for the past week and if I read this post earlier I'd be there now. Montgomery is just north of the route I drive home, all 553 miles with one stop to refuel.

Sitting in line at the Pike Drive-In right now. Well, first in line,
actually. I left myself plenty of time to allow for traffic delays,
and there weren't any...so I'm three hours early. Just me and
the owner. No biggie. It's a lovely day, and I'm at a Drive-In.
Few other places I'd rather be.

You're right

Now to get caught up on my reading.

 Re: Spook-Er-Roo Spectacular - Pike Drive-In (PA) - Sept 19-
Had an amazing time at the Spook-Er-Roo Spectacular. Good turn out, and it did well enough that they've announced it'll
be a twice-yearly event starting next April. Knowing the organizer, Don Dzkowski, this will likely be within a week or so of
Monster-Rama both times, giving folks able to attend a nice one-two punch of retro Drive-In goodness. I had a chance to talk
with Don, Phil Dubois of Dead Til Dawn (this coming weekend in Coxsackie, NY), and the Pike's owner Joe about the mechanics
of doing retro shows, running a Drive-In, and general flick talk for an hour or so before the gates opened, which was a blast.

The films were a lot of fun. The evening started with the Three Stooges short DIZZY DOCTORS, then the Technicolor MR MAGOO
MEETS FRANKENSTEIN cartoon (which ran at a previous Monster-Rama and Spooktacular), then a couple of trashy 70s trailers
for films like BEAST OF THE YELLOW NIGHT. I'm not sure I'd seen WAR BETWEEN THE PLANETS before, and it was a nice oddball
way to start the all-nighter. Nice 60s Italian sci-fi from the "Gamma I" series. A brief intermission with some classic snack bar ads, then
came HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS, which I love. Perfect, like-new print on that one. Another intermission, then came DEATH WEEKEND,
a gritty ****/revenge exploitation film that was neat to see in it's perfect setting, on a Drive-In screen. After that came a Mickey Mouse cartoon
to cleanse the palate and consecrate the grounds. Up last was DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT, a film I've never liked but worked well
at the end of an all-nighter at the Drive-In. After that I settled in for a night of sleep in the car, and as the last of the theater's workers was
pulling out of the lot, I was told I was the only one who'd exercised the camping option, so I'd be totally alone there. Very cool. Waking up the next
morning completely by myself at a deserted, fog-shrouded Drive-In early in the morning was a very neat and eerie vibe.

Here's a link to some pics I took before and after the show:

Thanks for showing us what a great night you had, Mark. The camping out part reminded me that a few times a year over a McCoy Stadium, either the Cub Scouts or Little League rents out the stadium for the night. The kids camp out on the field and they show movies on the Jumbo Tron. Since I am directly across the street, I can see and hear what's playing.

Great review and pics! I'll have to make an effort to get to one of these events.
