I have been interested in the DVD set of the animated Star Trek series for a while, but couldn't quite shell out the money for it. I only had a vague memory of the show itself from when I was a kid. And I'm not even sure if I saw it when it was first on, or a few years later. My main memory from the show was that we used to have one of those Talking Viewmaster viewers. It was basically a viewmaster that had little records attached to the picture disc that would play while you looked at the pictures. We had one from the episode of ST:TAS where Spock went back to Vulcan and saw himself as a boy.

When it first came out, the DVD set of the show it was somewhat expensive. I decided to simply rent it one disc at a time from Netflix rahter than buy the set. I finally finished that project a couple of months ago. The price seemed to keep gradually going down, but since I already watched it al there didn't seem to be any need to buy it. That ended last night when I went to Walmart and just happened to see that the ST:TAS set was priced at... $14.98! Needless to say, I now own it.

Walmart's website has the set priced at $18.86. Not sure why there's a difference, and not sure if all stores have it for the same price, but if you've thought about picking this up now may be the time to do so!

Ah, the Star Trek cartoon! I watched it when it originally broadcast in 1973 and loved it! The animation may have been a little subpar, but they were wise to use all the original voices. I remember not having seen it for the longest time, then in the mid 80s, Nick at Nite started to run the episodes and it was a joy to see it again :D !

Of course I taped them...and now have the DVDs.

I have heard talk of people wishing that TPTB would give the cartoon the "remastered" treatment and I suppose it would be interesting to see that....

...but if you like the original Filmation style of Star Trek, then I have a treat for you, Col. Manning! Starship Farragut (one of the fan film groups) is now making an episode in the Filmation style animation. It will look just like the original cartoon, except the crew is from the U.S.S. Farragut.
