I could have sworn that this magazine was in this forum already (as a matter of fact I thought I posted it last year), but it seems to be gone now.

I loved Starlog as a kid. Before the internet, and before I had cable, Starlog was my best source for keeping up with sci-fi movie news. I used to buy copies of it at the neighborhood drug store on the way home from school (how quaint, old-time New Englandy does that sound?), and eventually I went ahead and used my paper route money to get a subscription.

I didn't even know it was still in print until the subject came up here last hear and someone mentioned that it was still around--but for a pretty hefty cover price. I still haven't gone ahead and bought any new issues, but last Sunday I was at a flea market and a guy selling magazines had a bunch of sci-fi stuff in a box for $1.00 each. There were quite a few Starlogs in the box. I ended up buying three very old issues (as in from the 70s, before I actually started buying them originally). There were some issues from the 80s that I recognized, but I figure I already have copies of them somewhere (if I could only find them) so I got the older ones. When I was collecting these back in the day I had also picked up some older issues (most likely at a flea market as well). These may have been ones that I already purchased in the past, but for a buck apiece I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a little trip down memory lane.

I used to love STARLOG, too. I think the first issue I picked up was a STAR TREK II special edition, which made me aware of the regular magazine. After that I'd often pick it up along with my weekly comic books. Good memories of reading about THE THING, POLTERGEIST, and other early-80s Sci-Fi and horror movies, and those back-page ads featuring an array of grotesque monster masks. I guess STARLOG was my FAMOUS MONSTERS, even though FAMOUS MONSTERS was still around at that time, albeit on its last legs.

I still have my old STARLOGs somewhere, though contrary to my memories I think I didn't really buy that many way back when.

Hmm..I know we talked about Starlog in this forum somewhere. A few years back, I nearly doubled the size of my collection with a great deal off of eBay. All of those issues were from the early-to-mid 80's which is exactly what I was looking for.
