Re: Avengers; Lineup Confirmed to Include Hulk
The Wasp and Ant-Man / Giant-Man would have been a stretch to pull off and I think they are making a mistake with Thor. There are just some things that won't translate from comic to big screen.

 Re: The Wasp in Avengers?
Just a small casting rumor about the Wasp

From Mania.com
http://www.mania.com/researching-wasp_article_125384.html

Who is Researching THE WASP and Why?
We've been speculating about who might be playing The Wasp for years now. Back in September 2008, Eva Longoria was spotted near Marvel offices carrying a stack of comics featuring the diminutive heroine.

This weekend Comics2Film received another such report suggesting a new actress is at least interested in the character.

An exclusive tip from a scooper who is known to us tells us that in between filming sessions for V, actress Morena Baccarin was seen visiting a comic shop and purchasing "a bunch of Avengers comics." Our tipster further said she was asking the store workers to specifically point out comics with the Wasp in them.

Just to reiterate, the source is someone we know and we have every reason to believe this source saw and heard what they claim. But what does it mean exactly?

The easiest conclusion to jump to is that Baccarin is researching for a role in The Avengers. While there's been no confirmation that Janet Van Dyne is actually in the movie, it's certainly possible since she's such a prominent part of the team mythology in both the traditional and "Ultimate" versions. Of course, Baccarin could have an in with the movie's director as well, since she first broke out as an actress on Joss Whedon's Firefly series. And she definitely has a look and air about her that lend themselves to the character.

What we can't say is what might have prompted this burst of research. Is she working up to independently approach Whedon and Marvel about the movie? Or did the filmmakers contact her and ask her to prep for a reading? Hey, maybe she just loves the Wasp and can't get enough of the comics.

Whatever the case, the roster for The Avengers is already over-flowing, so we'd have to imagine that any Wasp or Ant-Man appearances will be less prominent then the core seven actors that were unveiled at Comic-Con.

UPDATE: New Synopsis for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers
New synopsis for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers

http://trekmovie.com/2011/03/22/sci-fi-movies-tuesday-superman-captain-america-the-hobbit-the-dark-knight-rises-the-amazing-spider-man-the-wolverine-robocop-more/

A casting call sheet for Joss Whedon’s "The Avengers" has been released that seems to confirm previous rumors that it will feature a war between alien races The Kree and The Skrulls. The call sheet features the following story description [via Before the Trailer]:

Quote:
A superhero team called “The Avengers” do battle against two separate alien extraterrestrial humanoid life forms. The Avengers are a superhero team, consisting of a group of Marvel Comics heroes aka “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”. The aliens that The Avengers will fight are called “The Kree” and “Skrulls”. These two extraterrestrial races become embroiled in a war for ages that ultimately makes its way to Earth, and the Avengers unite to intervene with all their power and might combined.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, available now, has a cover feature on Joss Whedon’s "The Avengers" and the issue includes character portraits for several characters along with online-exclusive excerpts with the cast. Here are some highlights [via EW]:

Chris Evans on his darker, more cynical version of Captain America [SPOILERS if you haven't seen 'Captain America']:

Quote:
"It’s just about him trying to come to terms with the modern world. You’ve got to imagine, it’s enough of a shock to accept the fact that you’re in a completely different time, but everybody you know is dead. Everybody you cared about,” Evans says. “He was a soldier, obviously, everybody he went to battle with, all of his brothers in arms, they’re all dead. He’s just lonely. I think in the beginning it’s a fish out of water scene, and it’s tough. It’s a tough pill for him to swallow. Then comes trying to find a balance with the modern world.”

Mark Ruffalo says Bruce Banner is the outcast of the group:

Quote:
"He’s the most mild-mannered guy, but a total loose cannon. No one wants to set him off except for Iron Man, except for Downey, who just wants to see him pop," Ruffalo laughs. "It’s funny, there’s a really cool dynamic between Tony Stark and Banner. Banner actually enjoys it, and finds it really refreshing. They’re a lot alike in a strange way. They’re both these kind of scientists who are mavericks, kind of renegades. Banner, for all his mild-mannered mythology, he’s still the dude who was testing some pretty crazy s–t on himself, so he has that rebel streak in him."

Read more at EW.com. Look below for two production stills and the aforementioned character portraits. In other news, in an interview with Total Film, Tom Hiddleston (Loki) revealed that his character takes on all the Avengers individually before facing them together:

Quote:
"The fun thing about Loki is that he goes 1-on-1 with every single Avenger," Tom Hiddleston told Total Film in an exclusive interview.

"Loki has become so menacing that they all have to team up and overcome their differences to stop him."

Hiddleson also revealed which Avenger was the toughest to fight:

Quote:
"It’s been the most incredible privilege to work with my own heroes. The greatest superheroes in the world played by some of the greatest actors in the world."

"I think I can dismiss the mere mortals, so Captain America may be a super soldier but he’s still a man and he’s up against Loki, who’s a God. I think Iron Man’s blasters hurt a bit … But I think it comes down to his thunderous brother. No one is harder to fight than his brother because there’s all that angst within him. Thor still comes out on top."

And lastly, Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) revealed that she’s signed up for seven movies after "The Avengers" [via CBM]:

Quote:
"Plus this one, seven more I think. This doesn’t mean I’m doing seven films – just means if they like me, then they’ll have me on more."

Yeah, after all this time it's hard to believe it's only a week away! Although I never really read The Avengers or comics of any of the individual members much as a kid, I'm really looking forward to this one. Most of the movies that have come out have been very good (some even great), and that's made for one of the greatest build-ups to a movie I can think of. Instead of dropping hints, making short teaser trailers and then a real trailer The Avengers have used a number of actual MOVIES as its teaser trailers (in a way at least). All the little Samuel Jackson bits served to tie them together to make us anticipate this movie for years. From what I've seen it really looks like it's going to b a blast. Hope it turns out that way!

Been reading comments from people Down Under (the movie opened last week for the Aussies). Unanimously, the reaction was the movie is spectacular. Like the other comicbook movies, wait until after the credits end for a teaser.

First off, thank you for all the updates and information Beastball. Second, why did the movie premiere in Australia before the U.S.? That seems odd to me. Is it a common practice?

Hey, glad to provide the updates, Col. Manning; it's been fun :)

You may find it surprising, but more and more American movies are opening overseas first. I'm not quite sure why, except of course it must boost renevue somehow.
The movie is already available online at sites such as veetle.com. It's tempting to take a look, but I'll wait to see it on the big screen.

 Re: The Avengers (2012)
I don't understand folks who steal movies online. Cuz, you know, on a computer or TV screen is the best way to experience a spectacle like this.

That rant aside, I saw THE AVENGERS today and LOVED it. Stand-up-and-cheer action and laugh-out-loud humor. I had goosebumps during some of the end battle sequence, and was screaming with laughter at a late-in-the-film Hulk moment. Easily the best film I've seen this year, and one I look forward to seeing again.

This is a post-conversion 3D job, so if you have a choice I'd say to save the extra money and see it flat, as the 3D didn't add that much (and I'm a sucker for 3D). Most Drive-Ins have this doubled with JOHN CARTER, which would make a fun night at the movies (though by no means a short one...more bang for your buck, though).

Great use of all the characters, action you can see and follow, and probably the best Hulk movie yet (which may or may not be saying much).

 Re: The Avengers (2012)
saw it this afternoon. fun stuff. loved it.

had a real blast. the audience loved it. theater was packed and there was a line to get into the next show.

i don't want to talk about it too much but there were two after credit scenes that were cool.

the hulk was awesome.

i don't like buffy the vampire slayer so i was worried when i heard he would direct it but i have to say he did a great job with it.
