The Return of the Turkey Day Marathon!
Check this out! We know that MST3K is long gone, and it certainly doesn't seem like there is any sort of reunion-type thing on the horizon, but I just saw some really cool news this morning. I'm sure we all miss the classic Turkey Day Marathons almost as much as the show itself. It was something that was newish when introduced in the early 90s, but became (certainly for me at least) a brand-new tradition that recalled some of the magic of being a fan of CDF as a kid. We were discussing the marathons in the sale forum recently (astroal mentioned wanting to watch some episodes with old Turkey Day bits interspersed. Well, it turns out that we all have an opportunity to do something really cool this Turkey Day! Joel himself (!) will be hosting six fan-picked favorite episodes of MST3K on at noon on Thanksgiving on http://www.mst3kturkeyday.com/mst3k/redditama.html ! How cool is that?!?

Here's the story I saw on Facebook with the news:
http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/11/18/mst3k-turkey-day-2013/

Oh, and if you happen to be on Twitter (which I am not), you can actually put in your votes for your favorite episodes (or at least the ones you think would be best for Turkey Day)!

i heard about this. if i'm home i'll watch some of it.

to be honest i have to admit i am really looking forward to programming my own marathon but how could i pass this up...

there will most likely never be a full on re-union because jim mallon is a jerk and he holds the rights.

Never underestimate the power of money...If a significant profit can be made, a reunion would happen.

I have to assume it's over money why it's not happening.

Re: The Return of the Turkey Day Marathon!
Well, today's the day! While there are old Turkey Day bits out there, and while it would be fun to "program" my own personal Turkey Day Marathon, I don't think anything can compare to this rare chance to have the (kinda-sorta) REAL THING this year! Six episodes chosen by fans, and having the whole thing actually hosted by Joel himself! I like the fact that I have no control over which ones they're showing (beyond having the opportunity to vote for them). It's kind of like a little return to the old days when you'd tune in to whatever was actually on TV (and WHEN it was on too). Even though this is online, it's just a little bit like a chance to relive the magic of not only MST3K, but even a bit of the feeling of watching CDF and other Boston-area TV from back in the days before the internet, DVDs and DVRs when you actually had to tune in to whatever was on WHEN it was on--or risk missing out. Truly Must-See TV! I don't know how much of this marathon I'm going to get a chance to see, but I hope to be able to check some of it out.

First flick is "Space Mutiny"! I'm embarrassed to say it, but I've never seen this one before. Luckily I'm getting a chance to see it NOW during this special marathon! Nice little intro by Joel about the 25th anniversary of MST3K before the movie too!

Second movie is "I Accuse My Parents". I've had to miss almost all of this one because of the incredible insensitivity of people who demanded that I actually sit at a table and eat copious amounts of turkey and sides! Ugh, some people just don't understand. Seriously though, it's tough to complain about something as awesome as this marathon, but I do wish that the Joel segments could be just a wee bit longer (and maybe even more frequent than just a quick intro before each episode. Oh well, it's still VERY awesome!

Third movie is "Werewolf". Hmmm, a Mike episode followed by a Joel episode followed by a Mike episode. I wonder if they're really picking the six episodes with the most fan votes...or if they picked the top three Joel eps and the top three Mike eps--just to be fair. It had occurred to me that if they really ran the fan favorites it might be very Joel-heavy. Top three from each would seem like a fair compromise. Let's see how this plays out...

Fourth movie is "Cave Dwellers". Here's another attempt to share a Joel screen shot:

I know it says no thumbnail available, but (for the moment at least) if you click on it it WILL take you to the photo. For whatever reason I haven't been able to upload photos the normal way today.

Fifth movie is "The Final Sacrifice". Wondering what the final movie will be?

And the last movie is..."Mitchell"! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and also that some of you had a chance to check out at least a little bit of the marathon!
