I remember watching SSSSSS one Saturday afternoon in the early/mid 80s...can't recall if it was on WSBK or WLVI.

Fun flick.

Yeah, though I noticed the cool listings for the afternoon, I don't know if I'm actually going to get to SEE any of these movies. Just figured it was worth mentioning in case anyone else might be around and able to watch them.

A classic Saturday! I missed all the fun programming, but at least it was because of something good--I had an opportunity to go to the movies with an old friend I don't get to see nearly enough. We saw "Wrath of the Titans".

 Re: THIS TV in Boston
I just love pleasant surprises. We were supposed to go to the drive-in tonight (only the second time this year), but one of my daughters was a little sick and needed to sleep. The wife and my other daughter went with our foreign exchange student (long story) and I volunteered to stay home with the little one. While disappointed to miss the drive-in I was kind of excited to have the TV to myself on a Friday night. Decided to watch something from my towering piles of DVDs and settled on "Ed Wood". I made some macaroni and cheese for dinner and popped the DVD in. As I was about to start the movie I decided to flip through the TV channels so see if anything was on. "What's the Matter with Helen" was just finishing up on THIS and I figured I should see what was coming up next. Turned out that it was "The Howling"! It feels almost like being a kid again watching channel 38 or 56 and one of their great 8:00 movies! Like we've mentioned around the board so many times, the commercials actually adds to the experience. It seems like it should be annoying, especially when I have a DVD sitting in the player that wouldn't have any interruptions, but the ad breaks just add to the old-time Boston TV feeling. ...And to top it all off, "The Fog" is going to be on at 10:00!

I saw both "The Howling" and "The Fog" when they came out, though I'm pretty sure I saw "The Fog" in the summer of 1980 at the drive-in. I've seen it a few times since then, but not "The Howling"...only saw that once. I should locate a copy and see it again. I only remember bits and pieces, but one thing that struck me was one of the guys that played a werewolf, was the same actor in all the A1 Steak sauce commercials at the time ("My friends, what is hamburger--chopped ham? No! It's chopped steak! So use A1 Steak sauce and have Steakburgers!")

Funny how some of the most trivial things stay with me...

That IS funny! i wish I had known that little factoid while watching the flick. It would have been fun to keep an eye out for that guy.

Love it. That's one of those commercial catch phrases that's so ingrained in my mind that I still find myself saying it to this day nearly everytime A1 or hamburgers are mentioned.

 Re: THIS TV in Boston
Good news and bad news. I'm now finally moved into Brookline. The good news is that we now receive strong signals for thisTV, MeTV and RTV. The bad news is that while in Central MA I was able to pick up both the Boston and Providence versions of MeTV and RTV. While this might not seem like a big deal it kind of was, because the Boston MeTV is the one that puts informercials on starting at 10:00. That means that I can't watch Svengoolie anymore. Oh well...

I don't know if this will help your situation, Col. Manning, but the other day while channel surfing, I noticed a new channel will be added. It will be channel 5.2 WCVB and I think it's another MeTV station! Right now, it only has the color test bars and that steady "off-the-air" tone going, so I'll keep checking back.
The reason I think it will be a MeTV station is because whenever I change stations, a little indicator pops up telling me the channel number AND the station designation (in this case, it shows it as METV).

Thanks Beastball. I have seen that channel too. I hope it comes on soon, and I'm crossing my fingers that this won't be a MeTV channel that shows informercials later at night--replacing all those great shows.
