Oh, and astroal, you're right about being close to the Coolidge! That's definitely one of the best things about moving. I'm planning on going to my first [email protected] show tonight!

 New Movie Station!
It looks like there's going to be a second movie station coming to the Boston area. Channel 25.2 has popped onto my station lineup in my converter box memory. It's not officially on the air with programming yet, but if I click the description button on my remote, it says "Movie channel coming soon".

That sounds like some potentially great news. We'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the heads up Beastball.

Thanks for the info Beastball. Check out these links! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movies! http://www.moviestvnetwork.com/

Hopefully Verizon won't put us through the long delay like they did with Me-TV.

I'm wondering when MOVIES! will be available. I just noticed that it is already listed on Titan TV. The movies are listed as though the channel is already broadcasting, but I still don't see it. I guess it's a nationally available channel so the listings must already be set even though the channel hasn't gone "live" in the Boston area (as far as I know at least). I looked at the Wikipedia page CDF Fan posted and it looks like MOVIES! is a sister station to MeTV. That's pretty cool to have a channel that focuses on classic TV shows and another one that features movies. Of course the fact that we already have a movie channel like that (thisTV) makes it all even better. And there's still Rtv too (though I never seem to watch that one anymore). It looks like MeTV, MOVIES! and thisTV are all owned by Weigel Broadcasting out of Chicago, but thisTV will be sold taken over by Tribune Broadcasting soon.

 Re: THIS TV in Boston
The MOVIES station has been broadcasting for the past week now on channel 25.2

The odd thing about it is the movie formats keep changing--meaning sometimes it looks like a letterboxed movie squeezed into a 4:3 ratio (everything looks tall and skinny). Other times they have pillar boxed format which is just the opposite of letterboxed. I've seen this on older movies that weren't widescreen to begin with, so it looks really odd. Also a few times I checked in, the picture looks relatively normal. These odd looking formats stay when they go into commercial break too. I tried to fiddle with the limited adjustments afforded by my converter box, but nothing seems to help.

EDIT: I just checked the channel as I am typing this and there is a beautiful widescreen presentation of Emperor of the North Pole (great movie BTW). The picture is sharp and the aspect ratio is dead on. The picture on this channel seems to be a higher quality than I get over on THIS. Movies on THIS seem to be compressed and tend to pixelate alot especially during water/ocean or action scenes.

Sounds like they're sending an anamorphic signal that's not being stretched out by the cable box/company. Do you have a widescreen TV? If you cycle through the viewing options you might be able to have it fill the screen and not be in SkinnyVision.

I came across a classic car show on NESN last night that looked the same. Odd that they weren't sending out a letterboxed 4:3 signal for our standard-def cable line-up.

I don't have a widescreen TV, but my converter box allows me to change the aspect ratio. I have noticed the MOVIES! channel no longer has the aspect ratio locked, like MeTV has their channel locked (when I try to change it, a message pop up saying "Aspect ratio cannot be changed on this channel").

I guess it was just a matter of time for them to work out the kinks. I'm really loving this station so far and their superior broadcast in widescreen compared to THIS TV.

 Re: THIS TV in Boston
Hey everyone. First off, I feel bad about not being around the board for a long time. I've checked in from time to time, but haven't been posting anything (as seems to be the case with almost everyone). It's also hard to believe that it was so hard to find this thread--it hasn't been commented on in well over two years! Anyway...

I just happened to tune into thisTV at about 11:30 tonight and saw Mothra on the screen! Figured I'd check the listings on Titan TV to see if they were doing a Godzilla thing. Well, apparently they are. But it's much more than that. They must be getting into that great Halloween programing spirit. Check out today's line-up:

10:00 AM: Vincent Price in "The Last Man on Earth" (1964)
12:00 PM: "Empire of the Ants" (1977)
2:00 PM: "The Island of Dr. Moreau" (1977)
4:00 PM: "Mothra" (1961)
6:00 PM: "Godzilla 2000" (1999)
8:00 PM: "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" (1991)
10:00 PM: "Godzilla vs. Mothra" (1992)
12:00 AM: "Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla" (1994)
2:00 AM: "Godzilla: Final Wars" (2004)

WOW!!!
I just saw a couple promos (which I wish I had known about earlier). Apparently this last week of October (24th-31st) is "Halloween Week of Horror" on thisTV. And they are indeed in the middle of a "Godzilla-Thon"! It looks like this will be a good week for thisTV! I'll have to check out more of the schedule!
