Re: TV's All-Time Favorites on Family Feud
You know what, all I can say is that (despite what the young 'uns of today might think) there was a LOT of cool stuff in the 70s! Thanks for posting this skorch. Classic 70s TV right there (and with classic 60s show stars too!). I have to say that some of the lineups for the shows makes you kind of wonder just who they might choose/choose to leave out. I'm sure the main factor would be trying to find enough cast members that wanted to/could participate. I mean, I can see Tina Louise not wanting to be part of the Gilligan's Island lineup, but it's surprising to NOT see Bob Denver taking part. Maybe his schedule just didn't make it possible, or perhaps he was in a typecast hell moment and thought he had a chance to distance himself from Gilligan (good luck with that Bob!). At the same time, imagine Bob Denver wanting to take part--who would you leave out? I wonder how often they had to make a tough decision like that. As far as Lost in Space, same situation. It would seem like the biggest draws would have been Billy Mumy and Jonathan Harris. Nothing against having Bob May there, but wouldn't you imagine Will Robinson and/or Dr. Smith before the voice of The Robot? Obviously it was most likely theri decision not to participate, but it seems kind of sad. And, maybe I'm thinking too much here, but what would have happened if there was a Hogan's Hero reunion for the show? I suppose that if it was after Bob Crane's death they wouldn't have even considered it, but before that the show would seem like a perfect fit--except for the fact that one of the biggest draws for that team just happened to be the host of the show! That would have been interesting!

Okay, now that I got all that off my chest, time to get back to enjoying watching this fun stuff! And, oldies.com has a couple of Family Feud All-Star DVD sets. One is a three-DVD set called "The Best of Family Feud All-Stars" and is currently going for only $8.98. They also have a two-DVD "The Very Best of All-Star Family Feud" for $4.98 currently. I'm guessing that the "Very Best of" is a slightly culled down version of the "Best of" set, but I'm not positive. Mark turned me onto these sets a couple years ago. I picked up one of them. It was most likely the "Best of" one, but I don't have access to it at the moment so I'm not positive. I'm not sure if the episodes posted here are part of it or not, but it did have "Gilligan's Island" and stuff like "The Brady Bunch", "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "The Love Boat". While that's all nostalgic stuff now, it's interesting that they actually had a lot of shows on the All-Stars episodes that were still in production. Sort of adds an extra level of excitement. You get reunions of some of your favorite old shows AND a chance to see some of the stars of "today's" shows!

I'll have to check these out...I used to watch Family Feud back in the Richard Dawson days, but I don't remember the All-star shows. Once Dawson left my interest waned in the show, but that just could be coincidence with me growing up and watching less TV overall. How many people have hosted this show over the years? I think it's still being made with Steve Harvey (?)

Thanks for the links skorch

No problem, glad you guys enjoyed them as much as I did. Since I know the gang here appreciates nostalgia just as much as I do, this is the first place I think of when I uncover something cool.

I remember Mark posting about the Family Feud sets too which is why I posted the clips here. I really want to go ahead and order one of those sets but I've been preventing myself from buying new DVDs and BluRays for a few months. The reason I did this is to force myself to catch-up and start watching the impossibly long backlog of stuff I currently have. Also I'm trying to resist buying anything I think I'll watch once and never pull out again, I think the FF set would fall into that category.

On the topic of the gang here/this forum, I still enjoy checking in at least once a week even if I don't post as often. It's kind of a shame that social networks have replaced message boards as a way of connecting with people who share your interests and I'm sure that's what kept this board from growing. I don't have a facebook account but I am on twitter and youtube just in case this board ever disappears and you guys want to stay in touch.

col

i am betting it was all down to scheduling as far as who was available at the time.

must be tough to co-ordinate schedules.

i worked on a show doing audio with bob denver and dawn wells back in the 90's.

bob didn't strike me as a guy who resented being associated with gilligan's island but who knows.

dawn wells certainly embraced it.

Really loved that All-Star FF DVD set. There are a few shows on there that were on TV consecutive days, so you can follow a team that wins from one day to the next,
maybe once or twice over the course of the DVD set. Doesn't seem like a show with a lot of repeat value, but as they were all stars/performers, there's a lot of MATCH
GAME-style cutting up and hijinks in the All-Star shows.
