Apparently topics disappear after a certain time if they're not actively used. I had put up a thread about the Twilight Zone magazine from the 1980s when this forum (Monster, Horror and Sci-fi Comics and Magazines) was first put up. There wasn't a whole lot of interest, but I still thought it was worth reviving because I wanted to post something that I just found.

For those not familiar with the magazine, it was published for a number of years in the early to mid-80s. It was mainly filled with TwilightZone-esque short stories of a fantasy/horror/sci-fi nature. A lot of the stories were by big name writers like Stephen King and Anne Rice, and some (IO believe) were from some of the writers from the original Twilight Zone show. In addition there would be all sorts of genre related news, movie news, articles about the Twilight Zone and people involved with it, scripts from the original show... To be honest, I haven't read or perused an issue in many years, so I don't really remember everything in it or exactly how it was set up.

What I DO remember is that I subscribed to the magazine for many of the years it was around and remember being disappointed when they stopped publishng it. The remaining portion of the subscription was transferred to OMNI magazine.

I was recently going through some old stuff that has been at my parents' house for a LOONG time and made an interesting little discovery--the card that was sent to me announcing that the magazine would cease to be published. The funny thing was that I had forgotten that I was still receiving it while I was in the army stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Now I recall how cool it was to get an issue in the mail while there. Along with the treasured letters from loved ones, the Twilight Zone felt like a bit of home.

Anyway, I know it's nothing important in the scheme of things, but here's that card from July 1989 that I just recently uncovered:

I know what you mean about the disappointment of a favored publication ceasing production. Back in the mid 90's in my home video game-playing heyday, I used to subscribe to Next Gen which was a higher quality gaming magazine. I used to look forward to getting my copy in the mail a full week before it hit the newsstand and stores (for a fraction of the price, too!).
Then one day instead of getting my magazine, I get PSM (Play Station Magazine) with a note attached telling me of Next Gen's demise and I'll be getting PSM for the rest of my subscription. While PSM was okay, it was clearly a couple of levels below Next Gen and since I only had 4 or 5 issues remaining in my subscription, I just let it run its course and expire.
Was OMNI magazine in the same vein as Twilight Zone? At least they replaced mine with another gaming magazine.

Yeah, that it an unfortunate feeling to learn that a favorite publication is ceasing (and being replaced by something else that probably won't be able to compare to an old favorite). I don't really remember OMNI too well. It seemed to be a fine magazine, but was definitely NOT like the Twilight Zone magazine. It seemed more geared toward real science. There was some cool paranormal/odd stuff covered and I think they had a decent amount of fiction too (could be mistaken about that), but it just didn't click with me. After my subscription ran out I don't think I ever opened another issue of OMNI. Maybe I should go back and look at it again, it could be better than I thought. It had the unfortunate disadvantage of trying to fill in for something very specific that I enjoyed a lot.
