I went in saw it today, like any other Michael Bay film, it was all fluff, no substance. Although I have to admit the visual effects were outstanding as usual. I plan on seeing it again but on IMAX next week.

I went to see this last night at the IMAX theater in Providence. This is the second movie I saw in IMAX (Star Trek being the first) and I noticed a slight difference in the IMAX treatment given to both movies. Firstly, an IMAX screen is not letterbox like ordinary screens. It's roughly the shape of a TV screen; albeit a three story TV screen (At least the one in Providence is like this; I don't know about other IMAX screens). Both movies were shown in letterbox format with the top an bottom of the screen unused. However, in certain battle sequences in Transformers, the screen switched to full IMAX--filling up the entire screen. Although this enhanced the look of the battles, I'm assuming the extreme left and right of the film were cut off by doing this.
The movie itself I found entertaining enough except for a few annoying things. Like--why is there a desert and an airplane boneyard outside the National Air & Space Museum? Is there more than the one in Washington DC? I also thought they should have done things a little different plot-wise. Why have the movie end the same way as the first one--with the Autobots winning? Why not end it with a cliffhanger and the Decepticons seemingly at the cusp of victory? Instead of Prime "dying" in the middle of this film then coming back, why not wait to the end of this film for him to die and everything seemingly lost? I mean, what a setup for the next film! It worked great for The Empire Strikes Back, didn't it? Since it was a foregone conclusion that this movie would be at least as successful as the first one, another one is almost guaranteed; it's a gold mine. With the way things are now, it'll be more of the same, and I find that disappointing story-wise.
