That is a remake that could turn out well with Depp. I can take or leave Burton.

I'm not a big Tim Burton fan, but I will hold back on criticism until I see the finished product.

I absolutely LOVE some Tim Burton stuff ("Ed Wood", "Mars Attacks", "The Nightmare Before Christmas"), but have been hugely disapointed by others ("Planet of the Apes"). It seems like he disappoints me more and more frequently lately. Being that this will be another remake (a la "Planet of the Apes") I tend to feel a bit doubtful. But who knows? I feel better that it's in Tim Burton's (and Johnny Depp's) hands than if it were, say, a Michael Bay movie or something like that!

Good opinion Beastball--and good point. It is just another reason why it can be so hard to pull off a successful remake. I'm sure many (if not most) of the people involved with these remakes liked the originals and feel they are doing something "good" by remaking them. But then it comes out and stinks! Very unfortunate, but I suppose the hope that the filmmakers respect the original enough to do something good with it is why I still reserve a wee bit of optimism when I hear that a favorite movie or TV show of mine is getting the remake treatment. True, I've been disappointed WAY more times than I've been happy with the results, but I'll keep on hoping. It doesn't seem that Hollywood is going to stop the deluge of remakes any time soon...
