I always loved this one, and never missed it when it was CDF. I was going to pick up the DVD a little while ago, but since it was OOP at the time people were asking $40 and up for it. luckilly for me (and everyone else for that matter) all the MM movies are coming back in print. I picked up a brand spanking new copy from the Newbury in Harvard Sq. for $7.99.
The DVD itself looks incredible. The Mars scenes really stand out in their garish glory.
As for the nostalgia value, well it's through the roof. Definately as good as I remembered if not better.

It's interesting that you posted this about "The Angry Red Planet" RobertW. I actually DON'T remember this particular movie from CDF. Not sure if I never saw it, or just don't remember it. But one of my best friends (who also grew up watching CDF) remembers it well and it was just about the first thing he thought of when we first discovered the old CDF website in September of 2006. we watched a clip of it on YouTube. Of course, I just HAD to see the movie after that. Unfortunately, like you said, it was OOP and very hard to find. I had it in the "Save" section of my Netflix queue for a long time before it was finally deemed "Not Available" by Netflix. A little over a year ago I found a used copy of the DVD at That's Entertainment (a comic book store in Worcester, MA). It was only five bucks, but I didn't know how rare it was at that point, so I passed it up--hoping to find a new copy of it cheap somewhere else. Needless to say, I kicked myself for quite a while after for not buyig it when I had a perfect opportunity.
Then a couple of months ago, oldies.com had a giant sale of 20th Century Fox DVDs (including tons of Midnite Movies selections), all for $6.98. They had "Angry" listed, but it was already sold out (of course)! Well apparently this sudden availability (not sure if they've actually been re-released or if someone simply found a warehouse full of DVDs that was overlooked) of the MM DVDs has spread to eBay. After ALL that searching I finally found a copy (brand new--still wrapped) there a couple of weeks ago for $5.00 (plus $3.75 shipping). I received it last Wednesday. I'm planning on getting together with my two best friends (the one mentioned before and another one I grew up with who also watched CDF as a kid) at the end of the month. We try to do this two or three times a year (getting together without the wives and kids) to watch stuff that they wouldn't want to see (like CDF movies). Anyway, I'm planning on surprising them with "The Angry Red Planet". The only problem with this is that I already have the DVD at home, but have to wait a couple more weeks to watch it! What I've seen from the trailer looks cool though. Can't wait to see the rat-bat-spider monster in action!
Sorry to be so long winded. I just had to share my "Angry Red Planet" story since I don't actually remember it fro the CDF days.

I think I've only seen The Angry Red Planet once and I'm almost positive it during a CDF. I can't remeber too much about it, apart from that weird red tint they used and of course that rat-spider thing. Wasn't there also a giant jelly brain with a spinning eye? Or something?

I finally got around to watching "The Angry Red Planet" with my friend who remembers it from the CDF days. we got together at the end of June and went to see "The Incredible Hulk" with his wife and kids, then went to their place to see "The Angry Red Planet". Great movie and a fun night!

Our 4 year old son is addicted to this movie. He repeats the dialogue along with the movie. "These don't look like the other trees. Let me have your machete, Tom ..." His favorite scene is the Venus Fly Trap (or in this case I guess it should be called a Mars Fly Trap).

I watched it this past weekend and forgot how much I was disappointed in the "message" ending, which is all too familiar in that era of sci-fi movies. It is almost like oops we're almost out of time better end the movie quickly.

I was going to give you the link to watch it on Fancast.com but it is no longer available. I didn't realize some movies had a limited online run.
