Uncle POE, I'm wondering if this is the set that this thread is about. "4 Film Favorites: Draculas". I saw this at Target a while ago and finally got around to picking it up (for $9.99). It seemed so out of place buying a four-pack of Hammer Dracula movies at Target (of all places) that I was looking forward to reporting it here. I wanted everyone to know that, among a bunch of four-movie DVDs at target they could get this awesome collection of Hammer Dracula movies. Before starting a new thread, I remembered this thread and re-read it. The movies are exactly the same, so I'm assuming that this is the same set.

Apparently it's part of a rather extensive line of Warner Brothers four-movie DVDs, as about the only thing they have in common is the WB logo after the "4 Film Favorites" title. A search at Target.com for "4 Film favorites" brings up two pages of examples of these sets. There are many different types of movies represented. While the Hammer Dracula one is arguably the coolest, they also have sets containing the first four "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies, the fifth through eighth "Nightmare" movies, the four Christopher Reeve "Superman" movies, the three "Matrix" movies (plus the "Animatrix" selection), and many others. It's a nice way to be able to pick up movies that you might not alerady own in bulk for a cheap price.

Here they are at Target.com:

I saw this set at Best Buy and was VERY tempted but passed because I already have "Horror". As cheap as it is I'll probably reconsider, how's the quality? Is it two flipper discs? The Reeve Superman set would be pretty cool as well but not sure about the others.

Col. Manning, I picked up the "Nightmare on Elm Street 1-4" collection that you mention. It's pretty good and the original movie comes with commentary, which isn't always the case on these collectors' sets. I'd buy another collection in the series.

Yes indeed Col. Manning, this is the same item. Skorch, the case houses Two Individual Discs, each having one movie per side.

Sorry, watching the subtitled Doll Cemetery right now, so I'll leave the FYI at this.

Yeah, these collections seem to be heavy on quantity rather than quality (meaning that I don't seem to see much in the way of extras included--commentary on "Nightmare on Elm Street" notwithstanding). I haven't watched any of the Dracula movies yet, so I can't speak for the audio/video quality of the prints or anything like that. If you're in the market for some movies that you'd like to own, but don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles with, it's a great (and inexpensive) option. I don't think any of these movies are "exclusives" to these sets, meaning that true fans would probably prefer to pick up the "real" or original releases of the individual movies to get all the extras. I might consider getting another one or two of these simply to have some movies that, while not necessarily my all-time faves, I wouldn't mind owning.

I picked this up last weekend at Target for $9.99 and immediately watched Dracula AD 72 and was pleasently surprised at how good it was considering all of the bad word the movie gets. I only owned "Horror" on VHS so this was a great deal for me. I too, never really got into the Hammer movies as a kid, the only ones I really liked were the Mummy and Quartermass.

Why is Dracula: AD 1972 considered a bad movie? Is it because it's set in modern England and centers on young hippyish characters? Do people find the Johnny Alucard character or the other young people annoying?

I have this movie as well, and I like it because it's set in modern times. It's kind of an oddball film when compared to all the rest of the Hammer Dracula movies because it doesn't have that Goth feeling (no castle, etc.). However, it does have Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing together and I enjoy any movie they're in.

I ended up buying this in July at Best Buy while looking for another DVD they didn't have in stock. I thought the 12.99 I spent was a good deal until I saw it at Target for 9.99
Haven't popped it in yet but I'm looking forward to seeing Dracula AD for the first time.

because its set in modern times and the "hipsters" are all cartoonish. the "modern" songs sound campy in a goofy way and there's a lot of peter cushing running...
i like it but i like it because i find it funny not scary at all.
plus caroline munro grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well I watched "Taste The Blood of Dracula" this past Sat. Night, and thought is was good, not great but overall a pretty entertaining Dracula flick. It's very strange that I am in my 40s and discovering these movies for the first time! Earilier in this thread I mentioned that I onely remember seeing The Mummy & Quartemass, I forgot to mention "Brides of Dracula", which I think is the best "vampire" film ever made. I own that one on VHS, I'm a little hesitiant to buy that box set with all of it's rumored glitches. For this Sat. night it will be "Dracula Has Risen From The Dead"! Is this one any good?
